Moving to Hawaii with a pet
This can be a very difficult thing to do. The necessary
paperwork and procedures can be very complex and
complicated. If you are planning to move with a dog or cat, you
really need to start the process a year in advance.
Kauai is very fortunate to have a Humane Society which will help
with this process. We'll expand more on this page as time
permits. There is also a private quarantine station on the Hilo
side of the Big Island. Otherwise all required in state quarantine
must be done in Honolulu.

NOTE: All pets being imported into Hwaii from the Mainland MUST FLY INTO Honolulu or into Lihue (Kauai) with special
arrangements to clear the Hawaii Department of Agriculture. The Kauai Humane Society is the ONLY way to avoid
bringing pets through Honolulu. (This service is new and not available on Maui or Hawaii). Make sure you call the Humane
Society well in advance, as they have to meet your inbound flight with their special van from their facility in Puhi.
